The GenAI Working Group brings together AI-related dialogues from faculties, centers, support units, and administrative departments into a unified Community of Practice.
“Which AI tools are currently being used at GU and are suitable for integration into the AIToolLab?”
“In what ways can the university’s central AI initiatives be aligned with the AI activities emerging from individual units or institutes?”
“What is the most effective way to disseminate the latest information on the AI guidelines, the EU AI Act, and AI training opportunities at Goethe University to members of the university community?”
“How can we bring together as diverse perspectives as possible on the use of GenAI in research, study, teaching, and administration at GU?”
To answer these questions purposefully, on December 17, the Community of Practice (CoP) GenAI of GU began its work. Members of the Community of Practice aim not only to remain informed about developments in AI, but also to play an active role in shaping how AI is used at Goethe University. Within the Community of Practice, different groups assume concrete responsibilities at various levels and provide regular updates on developments and progress. All GU staff and students are warmly welcome.

The GenAI Working Group (AG GenKI) is pleased to share:
“With the Core Team alone, we do not have sufficient woman- or manpower to respond to all inquiries, review use cases, provide technical support, regularly inform the diverse user groups at Goethe University, or offer targeted training for the effective use of AI. Naturally, we also want to stay informed about local AI projects at the university. That is why it is so important for members of the Community of Practice to actively contribute and share feedback—particularly regarding which initiatives are currently being tested in faculties, institutes, administrative units, and support structures.”
The GenAI Working Group is at the center of the CoP and bundles information and activities. The other members of the CoP assign themselves the roles in the community that best fit their work profile at GU and take up the AI dialogue close to everyday work. All roles were put up for discussion and participatively equipped with questions and responsibilities by the participants.

- External Ambassadors distribute the CoP’s information within GU and find more interested parties
- Critical Friends document in particular usability and access barriers
- Use Case Explorers collect AI usage scenarios
- Bridge Builders ensure communication between the levels and the Core Team.
- CoP Activists maintain contact with other GU committees and working groups.
- Technology Visionaries further develop the existing GenAI infrastructures at GU.
- Ethics Detectives follow critical dialogues on the use of generative AI in research, study, and teaching.
Soon, specific contact persons for the roles of the CoP GenAI will be found on the GenAI website.
